He has been arrested in Chicago on a federal grand jury indictment listing 13 counts including sex crimes and obstruction of justice. Days after Jeffrey Epstein made global news for his arrest on one count of sex trafficking and one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking.
When, Where and How?
According to the reports, Kelly stands accused of sexually exploiting at least five “Jane Does,” three of whom were minors, over the last 20 years in Illinois, California, and more places. The documents allege that the singer controlled their meals, movements, and who they could look at. It alleges that he required them to refer to him as “daddy.” Besides that the allegation includes additional charges of racketeering and violation of the Mann Act, which states a person can’t move people across state lines for the purpose of prostitution.
Singer R Kelly Arrested
This is the second time the singer has been arrested this year. Illinois prosecutors brought state charges in February, which included 10 counts that involved the sexual abuse of three girls and a woman. He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail. And then in May, Illinois prosecutors added 11 more counts, to which he’s pleaded not guilty as well.
Later in May, Cook County prosecutors added 11 more sex-related counts against the R&B singer involving one of the women who accused him of sexually abusing her when she was underage.
On the other hand, his attorneys could not immediately be reached for comment on the federal charges. Fitzpatrick said Kelly’s arraignment date and time had not yet been set.
Earlier, Kelly has faced mounting legal troubles this year after Lifetime aired a documentary “Surviving R. Kelly,” which revisited allegations of sexual abuse of girls. The series followed the BBC’s “R Kelly: Sex, Girls & Videotapes,” released in 2018, that alleged the singer was holding women against their will and running a “sex cult.”
