In recent years, filmmakers have frequently shared first-looks at expected casts while movies were still in making. In September 2018, Joker filmmaker Todd Phillips shared a glimpse at Joaquin Phoenix in his full make up a full year before the year started. Such reveals are unusually engaging to filmmakers whose projects are filming outdoors, where spectators or paparazzi might click photos before an official look of the character is released.

Warner Bros. is set to open The Batman on June 25, 2021.
