Last Tuesday the iconic movie ‘Dil se’ completed 20 years. So did the iconic song, ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya.’ If you didn’t feel old yet you’re about to. Mani Ratnam’s Dil se was a huge success. The song that became an overnight hit in the movie can be attributed to many things.
You could say the dance number performed on the train was its greatness or Malaika Arora’s amazing dance moves. Whatever it may be Farah Khan’s choreography is the one to blame. Along with Shah Rukh Khan’s charisma and Sukhvinder Singh’s brilliant voice we were delivered a hit. The song is even featured in the top 10 songs in the international poll conducted by BBC.
‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’ and Malaika’s rise to stardom
The movie ‘Dil se’ itself is quite significant in cinema because of its theme, direction, and music of course. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan, Manisha Koirala and Preity Zinta who’s film career began with this movie. The movie was way ahead of its time when it released and didn’t do too well in theatres. However, the song didn’t fail to grab viewers attention. All credit goes to the dance performance by Malaika Arora. The songs ‘Dil se re’ ‘Aye Ajnabi’ and ‘Jiya Jale’ have also been hits and fan favorites for over two decades now. ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya was also the song that gave Malaika Arora her rise to stardom. Her item number in the song was well received throughout the country.

We were all reminded of this when Malaika posted a still from the song. The poster image had the caption ‘Celebrating 20 years of Dil Se’. The iconic moment of dancing on the train is captured perfectly in this Instagram post. Tagging everybody, from Shahrukh, Farah, Manish Malhotra and even A.R Rahman she has clearly given us a whiff of nostalgia. The song is a remake of A.R Rahman’s ‘Thaiyya Thaiyya’ which still is a tune hard to forget. In fact, ever since we’ve seen that post the only song in our heads is ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya.’ However, Malaika Arora Khans Instagram wasn’t the only post reminiscing about the movie Dil se. Manisha Koirala, the lead actor of the film, posted a collage of stills too. Preity Zinta posted a still from the movie thanking everybody in the caption for making the start of her film career amazing.
